SCRIMMAGE DETAILS FOR SATURDAY IN D.C.

Washington’s developmental camp continues today and will conclude on Saturday with a scrimmage among attendees on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the K-Plex in Arlington. BEARS fans have a chance to see a few familiar faces plus a sneak peak at what the future holds, so it’s well worth your hockey time if you’re available to make the day trip. If you cannot attend, but would like observations from the On Frozen Blog team, they’ll be conducting a live blog Saturday morning. Here’s the link to check it out. http://www.onfrozenblog.com/2008/07/10/saturday-live-blogging-from-kettler-capitals/

I had been hoping to attend the festivities Saturday, but I’ll be depending on the OFB guys and my right hand man Chris Poisal to give me the scoop too. My son Jack is having his gallbladder and spleen removed today in Cincinnati, so it’s a family first weekend for me. We had to be at the hospital this morning at 6:00 a.m., and he just went back a little while ago. It’s good therapy for Dad to have something to do for the three hours he’ll be under the knife, so here I am. I gotta tell you, he’s one tough kid. All the nurses and doctors came and went, and he was as cool as any 10-year old kid you’d ever see. I’m not sure even now I’d be as cool as him if I had to have surgery. He and I had a laugh as we went into the operating room, probably a much needed laugh for me. He was wheeled into operating room number eight, and the sign on the door said OR 8. He said to me “Dad, it’s too bad it wasn’t OV 8 instead”. I chuckled pretty hard, and I took the room 8 and Ovechkin reference as a sign of good luck. The doctors told us it’s a relatively routine procedure, and takes around three hours start to finish, so we’re just cooling our heels in the waiting room here at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati.

The magazine selection here leaves something to be desired, so I’ll likely be thumbing throw hockey stories for the next couple of hours. If anything strikes me as interesting, I’ll probably throw it up here and share with the rest of the class. Jack will likely be out around lunchtime today.

For those of you who attend camp this weekend, feel free to e-mail me your thoughts about it at bearsradio@hotmail.com I’ll post some of them up here to share with everyone.

.W. - hope all goes well with Jack today. They are always "routine" procedures or "minor" operations until it is you or your family! The OV 8 is a great story. I am sure you will keep us posted on his recovery and look forward to hearing the good news.

Paul

P.S. Only 64 days until the Buckeyes head out to Southern Cal!

Holy cow. Jack's a little young for his internal organs to be rejecting him!

Fingers crossed that everything is ok and in working condition when he gets out! Your son is quite the trooper!

Thanks very much all, it's appreciated very much.

Paul, believe me, I've got the date circled on my calendar. It's the date that will define the season.

Dupree, I hope the OFB boys look after you and keep you on the straight and narrow. Have fun, and give me a full report later on.

JW, I have your son and your entire family in my prayers. May he have the fastest of recoveries! That was a great touch by him regarding Ovie. Take care.

P.S. I don't know if you remember but I was frequently a participant in lunchtime hockey with yourself, Doug, Terry Conner, Lamont, and many others. Hang in there man!
